Week 25

This week was really fun! My very favorite was getting to go to dads and doughnuts with my dad yesterday. But, later that day we got to see the UT steel drum band play and that was cool because they are really good. Also, do you remember a while back when my teacher won a grant to buy things to make music with for our classroom? Well one of the ladies that worked there Dr.Odam came to our class room to see what we are doing with the money that she and her company gave us and she said that she is going to play some of our songs for Bill Gates!!!!!!! So everyone is so excited. But, that was not all I did this week I had my Haney’s court and I was on our morning news show in a banana costume to promote our school snacking program. That was my awesome week at Rocky Hill.File Feb 26, 8 45 28 AM

But other than that this week has been a lot of fun! We have been working on our second song and we had our Valentines day party and we all got ice cream. That was my awesome week at Rocky Hill.(there will be a video this week)

My third prompt

Working Dogs

By:Lily Mason

Have you ever thought of seeing dogs at work? That is exactly what they are doing in the recent articles “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder and “Hide-and-Seek School” by Vivienne Lenk the dogs have jobs such as an avalanche rescue dog who finds an in danger people that are burried deep down in the white snow or a sheep herder who can herd sheep in a matter of minutes. Those two hard working dogs have a lot in common, but they also some differences between them. In the next few paragraphs I will tell you a few of the similarities and differences between the two.

I am going to tell you about the differences of the types of working dogs in the two passages “Hide-and-Seek School” by Vivienne Lenk and “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder. In the article “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder the article states,”Border collies were developed in the border country between Scotland and England in Great Britain. They were chosen for their instinct to gather stock, or farm animals, and bring them back to their masters.” So in this passage the dogs were working as sheep herders but, on the other hand, in “Hide-and-Seek School” by Vivienne Lenk the article states,”This isn’t a typical school. It’s an avalanche-rescue drill for dogs at Breckenridge Ski Resort.” so in this passage the dogs are working as animal rescue dogs unlike in the other passage where the working dogs worked as sheep herders. Just because the two passages have differences does not mean that they do not have similarities. In the next paragraph I am going to tell you about the similarities between the two passages “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder “Hide-and-Seek School” by Vivienne Lenk.

Now that you know the differences between the two passages “Hide-and-Seek School” by Vivienne Lenk and “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder it is time to learn the similarities between the two passages. In “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder it states,”Most of us who own dogs have them as pets. David’s dogs are working dogs, not pets. He expects them to earn their keep by working.”When snow season is over, the dogs get a well-earned break.” So in both passages we can tell that the dogs have been working as hard as they can on their jobs. Next, In the passage “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder it states,”David works long, hard hours on his farm, but he always has time for his dogs. It is clear that he loves them as much as they love him.” Also, in “Hide-and-Seek School” by Vivienne Lenk the article states,”Rube is definitely showing signs of deep loyalty to me” So in both texts the dog and the owners are very good friends and the owners love there dogs just as much as the dogs love them back.

So in conclusion, in the two passages “It’s a Dog’s Life” by Rebecca Upjohn Snyder and “Hide-and-Seek-School” by Vivienne Lenk have many similarities and differences. I sure am glad that we have rescue dogs to do many things from herding sheep to saving people’s lives everyday. So next time you see a working dog thing about what they might do to help the world.

My second Prompt

Pollution

By: Lily Mason

Have you ever wondered about all of the pollution and harm that is put into the earth when we do not recycle? In two recent articles “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson and “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox they talk about some of the effects of what not recycling are and how pollution is getting worse and worse everyday. In the next few paragraphs I am going to tell you about the differences and the similarities of what these two passages think about pollution and its effects on our environment.

In the two articles “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox and “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson have very different views on what to do about pollution.First, in “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson the passage states,”She uses the trash to create giant sculptures of marine animals. The project is called Washed Ashore and its goal is to raise awareness about the effects of littering on ocean animals.”Next, in “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox the article states,”So why don’t more people drink water straight from the kitchen faucet? Some people drink bottled water because they think it is better for them than water out of the tap, but that’s not true.” So in both passages they are for getting rid of pollution but, they have different ways of getting that extraordinary job done, in “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox the author thinks that one way we can stop of prevent a lot of pollution is if you drink tap water instead of drinking bottles of water and throwing the plastic water bottles can make things worse and worse  and so just  by drinking water from the tap you can prevent a lot of pollution. On the other hand, in “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson the author wants to raise awareness about all the pollution people are creating by making art out of all of the trash that pollutes the ocean and displays it so she can raise awareness. Lastly, in “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” the passage states,”Plastic bottle recycling can help—instead of going out with the trash, plastic bottles can be turned into items like carpeting or cozy fleece clothing.” and in “Art for Ocean Animals”by Elise Jonas-Delson by Catherine Clarke Fox the passage states,”Pozzi started Washed Ashore when she noticed plastics on the beaches in Oregon, where she lives.” so in “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson the author knows a business and in  “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox the author just wants to raise awareness but dose not have a business like in the other text. Just because these articles have their differences does not mean that they do not have anything alike.

In this paragraph I am going to tell you about the similarities in the two passages “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson and “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox.  For example,in both of the articles the authors both want to prevent or even maybe stop pollution it talks about this in “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox,”People love the convenience of bottled water. But maybe if they realized the problems it causes, they would try drinking from a glass at home or carrying water in a refillable steel container instead of plastic.” it is also in “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson the article states,”The project is called Washed Ashore and its goal is to raise awareness about the effects of littering on ocean animals.” so as you can tell from both passages both of the authors want to prevent pollution in their own special way and they both believe that they can work and stop pollution. Also, in the passage “Art for Ocean Animals” by Elise Jonas-Delson the passage states,”Plastic doesn’t break down and become absorbed by the environment. Instead, sunlight breaks it down into pieces about the size of plankton, which are tiny organisms that float in the sea. These tiny pieces of plastic enter the food chain. Sea animals eat them and end up dying.” and in “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox the text states,”But all those plastic bottles use a lot of fossil fuels and pollute the environment. In fact, Americans buy more bottled water than any other nation in the world, adding 29 billion water bottles a year to the problem.” so as you can tell both author try to persuade their reader by telling them all of the problems that the pollution can cause so that the reader will become interested and want to continue reading or maybe even want to help out with the authors cause.

I hope that you now know people are out in the world doing what they can to stop all kinds of pollution. I also, hope that after you have read this you can make a difference just like I am going to try and make a difference in my city and I hope that the World can band together band together  and help stop the fight against pollution and be just as strong and helpful as  the authors in “Drinking Water: Bottled or from the Tap?” by Catherine Clarke Fox and “Art for Ocean Animals”by Elise Jonas-Delson are today.
